Spring is officially here, and with that comes new arrivals to the store. One of our favorite things to come this season are the new shoes from Svensson. You may remember them for their killer knits and denim we always have in stock. Now to add to their collection, we brought in a few of their shoes in to Goose Barnacle. Modeled after a German military issued shoe found in Berlin, Svensson ups the ante on the replica shoe, producing them in Italy, using high quality leather and suede. Stop by the store to give them a try.

Recollections: Contemporary Portraits

Goose Barnacle introduces Carl Grauer as the latest installation in the gallery this spring. Grauer creates meticulously crafted portraiture from slides or images he finds. Searching for the haunting hints of nostalgia in scenes that play with the tension between memory and the actual experienced past, he explores the unique role of the family unit in this dynamic. He initially began with his own family, focusing on source imagery that evoked the unique emotions of discomfort or longing stirred within himself. He hints that the simple memory may in fact be a more complex projection, tainted with the individual yearning for an idealized history that never was. Grauer’s work does not offer reasons or a distinction between the discomfort and joy of nostalgia. He simply states, “I’m painting an autobiographical self-portrait of nostalgia.”

Goose Barnacle Takes a Trip

So as the pictures may suggest, we haven’t been at the store for the past week. We decided it was high time to get a fresh perspective and find some new things for the store, so we went all the way to Scandinavia. First we went to Copenhagen, where we scouted for new brands during their fashion week, meeting with designers and exploring collections. Then off to Malmö for some down time with our good friends from Svensson, whose clothing you may know from the store. We saw some things, met some people, and had an all around great time. Expect many good things to come out of this trip for the upcoming seasons.

Shop Video Project

Here at Goose Barnacle, we’re all about hanging out with our friends and having a good time. So when our friends, Nick Ray McCann and Ryan McDaid, wanted to get together one weekend and do something fun, we decided to team up with them and our afro-beating friends EMEFE, and make a video in the neighborhood. Lucky for us, they’re some pretty talented film makers and musicians, in addition to being cool guys. Our outfits and accessories are all available at the shop.

In other news, keep your eyes peeled for the launch of our online shop. We’ve been cooking up something special for all you out of towners who can’t make it to the shop.
