Soulland Meets Babar Collection

We are really excited here at GB to receive select pieces from Soulland’s new Babar Collection. This exclusive collection is based on the adventures of Babar and his friends in ‘Histoire de Babar’ written by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. Soulland is the first menswear brand licensed to use the original artwork from this classic children’s book and has produced these garments in very limited quantities.

SS13 is beginning to fill out here at GB and while we’ve always encouraged women who pull off menswear with style we brought in some summer footwear just for the ladies. Working alongside local artisans in Spain, Goose Barnacle has developed two summer styles for women that are comfortable, functional, and ready for everyday wear.

The camping slip-on’s in white and navy, these are a moden slim slip-on that you would find on beach goers and city dwellers alike in Spain. Thick canvas upper material that can withstand the daily grind or the waves and only look better broken in and sunbaked. Camping Slip-On’s $28

Summer Beachwear

Ahhhh. . . Feel that fresh warm air finally moving in ? After all this dreary weather one sunny day is almost enough incentive to break out your summer gear and get ready to hit the waves. Our SS13 swimwear has just arrived, shop staple Jed & Marne’s hand woven Guatemalan shorts are back, in both long and short styles. In addition to Jed & Marne we welcome new beachwear designer Okun. Okun which is Yoruba for “The Ocean” draws inspiration from the bold colors and captivating language of African textiles. Working closely with Goose Barnacle owner David Alperin, Okun exclusively crafted three pairs of effortlessly vibrant beachwear that captures the traditional African aesthetic in an innovate and contemporary way.

Exclusively designed for Goose Barnacle with a primary color pallet, the Patrice trunks from Okun feature two side pockets, one back pocket with zipper, pattern lined waistband + side pockets. Net lined.

Following a more traditional draw string swim short the Ali’s from Okun feature two side pockets, one back pocket with velcro closure and net lining.

Halley Zien Opening Night Party

We would like to thank everyone who came out to Halley Zien’s opening last Thursday at Goose Barnacle. It was truly a spectacular evening filled with friends, family and Halley’s beautiful work. Special thanks to our friends at Brooklyn Gin for providing delicious cocktails and my UCA for being the best.

New Arrivals Spring 2013

Seems like old man winter is playing hide & seek with us, however spring is in full swing at Goose Barnacle.

Multicoloured cotton ‘Panda’ sweater from Henrik Vibskov featuring a black round neck, long sleeves with black cuffs, a Bauhaus knit print and a straight black hemline.

Two coloured slim fitting Lobster Lemon jacket from Études over our Tower of Hercules Goose Barnacle tee. Études jacket features four zip front pockets, two drawstrings, and a collar with retractable hood. 100% cotton stone wash. Hercules tee is enzyme washed and discharge printed for a vintage look & feel. Also available in grey.

One of my favorite pieces for the season by Han Kojenhaven the public shirt with all over bird print. The shirt has a tight tailored fit, two oversized pockets with button closures, size up for a more casual fit. Appropriate for cooler spring days as a light jacket. Accessorized with Steve Mono tote and Illesteva tortoise shades.

This spring we’ve also received new pieces from designer Melinda Gloss. Deep blue lightweight wool jacket features english notch collar, two front bucket pockets, and horn buttons. 100% lightweight wool keeps you cool in the sun and warm at night, made in France. Paired with Melinda Gloss plaid collard shirt, wooden buttons, 100% cotton.

New spring shoes have also begun arriving first up are the always classic navy derby shoes from Soulland. With an upper of 100% nubuck leather and a contrasting rubber sole with a layer of leather. These derby shoes are only going to look better with wear. On the right are the army sport leather sneakers from our friends at Svensson, white suede details over white leather with natural gum sole.

Using the same kaolin clay deposits since it’s founding in 1808, Sargadelos continues to make its mark in the present day, with new ideas that come together to create one of the most dynamic projects of our times. It was difficult to choose so few of the extraordinary pieces that they have to offer. Pictured above are four porcelain birds from the Fauna collection, classic coffee mug, and the infamous Tower of Hercules lighthouse. The Tower of Hercules is over 1900 years old and is the oldest working Roman lighthouse in use today, located in Galicia, Spain it is also Goose Barnacle’s iconic lighthouse logo.

For our eighth exhibition, Goose Barnacle welcomes New York City native Halley Zien. Halley’s work reflects the visceral mental drama of everyday life and everyday places, revealing an expressive universe concealed just below the surface. Her work searches for truth in what it is to be human in a super idealized world and her subjects unleash everything they are feeling internally outward. Magazines have become her source of inspiration towards unlocking these worlds. Halley’s creative process consists of building and rebuilding, scratching away at the surface and finding new realities through collage, painting, drawing and installations

Goose Barnacle Welcomes John Whitlock to the Gallery

For our seventh exhibition, Goose Barnacle welcomes our good friend and talented artist John Whitlock. Born and raised in downtown Brooklyn, John’s work relfects the cacophony of influences that seep into the life of an artist living in New York. Through the use of simple geometric shapes that he places in conversation with complex formalist compositions, he brings a newfound perception of everyday imagery. Working primarily in collage and assemblage, John’s work draws inspiration from Dada, abstract expressionism and Cubism, as well as his background in graphic design.
